*Please text, call or email to set up a make up time.

Performance

*Recitals will be held at Christmas time, and again in May. One memorized piece will be required for each recital.

*WMMTA: Fall Festival in November, and Music Progressions in the spring also require one memorized piece for performance.

*Other festivals and competitions are also available:

-KMTA auditions in the early fall:  solo or duet

-WMMTA Concerto auditions in November.

-WSU Festival in January

-WMMTA  Scholarship Day in the Spring.

Practice

*Students are expected to establish a regular time of practicing at least 5 days a week – a minimum equivalent to their lesson time (either 30 or 45 minutes.) The more serious the student, the more time spent practicing!

*All students are encouraged to have a well-maintained piano and a metronome. A music dictionary is also very helpful for intermediate and advancing students.

*If for any reason you must stop taking lessons, a month’s advance notice would be appreciated.

*Routinely, parents and siblings wait outside during their child’s lesson. Siblings waiting for lessons may work on the computer during the other’s lesson time, or wait quietly, reading or doing homework.

Parents, please make every effort to encourage children by listening to them inquiring about their lesson, and occasionally sitting in on a lesson. As a parent, you are responsible for practice sessions (for the time suggested by the teacher. Practice time should be on a regular schedule, uninterrupted and free from the distractions of television, family activities and so on. If we all work together, your child will have a positive experience and a lifelong gift!

Miscellaneous

*Regrettably, I will have to dismiss a student if any of the following circumstances occur:

1. failure to pay tuition

2. persistent absences

3. uncooperative attitudes

4. lack of progress due to insufficient or ineffective practice.

I enjoy teaching your children and I’m sure we will have none of these problems!

Piano Maintenance

*Have your piano tuned at least annually. Your tuner/technician can also address sticking notes, non-working pedals, and any other problems with your instrument. Keys that do not work and an out-of-tune piano can discourage good musicianship!
